Every offshore worker must pass an OEUK (formerly OGUK) offshore medical examination. For UK waters and the North Sea, these medical assessments must be conducted by an OEUK approved physicians who are on the list of approved doctors at the time when the medical certificate is issued. Generally, this type of medical is accepted worldwide as a good indicator for health and fitness in the offshore industry.
What is involved in the assessment?
This type of medical can take up to 45 minutes. The assessment includes full medical history, measurements of height and weight, BMI, audiometry, spirometry, O₂ saturation and urine dipstick. Depending on the type of medical, a physical exercise test (Chester step test) can be conducted as well. It will be helpful if you bring with you the filled in OEUK Medical History Declaration form, which can be found under section Downloads.
What do I need to bring with me?
On the day of your appointment, you need to have with you a government issued photo ID, like a driving licence or a passport. Also, you need to know the exact job description and the name of your employer.
Please, wear comfortable cloths in case you need to perform the Chester step test.
